Garmadon’s Restaurant Ambush

It seems that Garmadon has abandoned his evil ways and decided to open a restaurant! The ninja, of course, are not buying it and they’ve come to check out the situation personally. The henchmen are having their meals, unaware of the danger that is slowly approaching.

Garmadon's Restaurant Ambush

It’s always nice seeing a new spin(jitzu) on something you like. Somehow the author managed to make this Ninjago MOC feel like it popped out of Naruto, a show I grew up with. It brought back some happy memories. Other than the Naruto vibe, I love it how all the ninja are incorporated, some in gis, some in training outfits, some in casual clothes. The lights are used to a beautiful effect – making this MOC really come to life. Is it just me or would this be a perfect addition to Ninjago City?

The scene was made by Henry Gouw, an Indonesian builder. If you want to see more pictures of this creation you can do so here.

Ninjago Movie coming to American Ninja Warrior

According to the official LEGO Ninjago Movie Twitter account the Ninja are coming to the American Ninja Warrior tonight (or tomorrow, depending on where you live).

Ninjago Movie coming to American Ninja Warrior

This isn’t the first time the Ninja will appear on Ninja Warrior and if it looks anything like the first one it will be a nice little addition to the promo material we already got. If you’re able tune in – if not I’m sure LEGO will share the video on YouTube in the near future.

LEGO Ninjago movie rumored 2nd wave sets

Just a few days ago we had rumors of upcoming LEGO Ninjago sets for 2018 and now we already have rumors for the next wave of LEGO Ninjago Movie sets. Rumors come from pictures of LEGO Ninjago Movie ‘The Making of the Movie’ book, taken by icefoxstopmotion.

Ninjago Movie 2nd wave sets rumors

The pictures include:

The Volcano Lair – a black-gray-yellow building embedded into a volcano, with lava flowing on one side. It includes two fish villains, one lab tech, Garmadon and Zane. Also includes a freestanding shark.

Ceremonial jade teapot – a cool looking teapot with some symbols on the side. The symbols appear to say ‘TE’ but they’re highly stylized.

Misako (Koko?) in her Lady Iron Dragon outfit – a great looking armor that I hope makes the final cut.

Cole’s Quake Mech – Great looking mech that leaves me wondering how it stands on one wheel. Next to the mech we see a smaller version of it. It’s quite different looking than the one available as a polybag.

Garmadon’s shark-mech – This one looks more or less the same as the one displayed at various fairs.

Miniature mechs – The pictures include Nya’s Waterstrider, Kai’s Fire Mech, Cole’s Quake Mech, and Jay’s Lighting Jet.

Miniature villain vehicles – To me these are the coolest of the bunch. These mostly look like piranhas and weaponized clams.

To be honest, these look quite interesting. Especially the mini builds of the mechs. I am glad that we’re getting one for each. I’m curious to see what those chibi fish villain vehicles will turn out to be, I hope they won’t be simple polybags. The only set out of these I wish was different is the Volcano lair. I’d hoped it would be bigger and with more villains. What are your thoughts on these?

Ninjago Movie coming to LEGO Worlds

Ninjago Movie coming to LEGO Worlds

Sandbox world building game – LEGO Worlds, is adding a lot of Ninjago Movie sets and characters in September.

The DLC will be completely free, so anyone who owns LEGO Worlds should get it! I myself am yet to get the game. I’m planning to get it for Nintendo Switch, when it gets a discount, but it is getting more and more tempting to buy it at full price. The official LEGO Movie Videogame is also coming out in September, so better start saving up now!

New Ninjago Movie TV spot

New Ninjago Movie TV spot

A new Ninjago Movie TV spot entitled ‘Back to School’ has appeared on YouTube. I contains some familiar scenes, but also a few new ones:

Nya walks us through her ‘The Ninja’s Guide to Everything a Ninja Needs to be a Ninja’, explaining how in order to be a good Ninja you need to be prepared. All you’ll need is some regular stuff: photographs of your favorite heroes, a mask to protect your identity, makeup and similar. Oh, and also a secret lair full of mechs.

I have to admit the TV spot gave me a few giggles, it’s definitely the best one yet!

LEGO Ninjago City spotted at Legoland Germany

A club colleague of mine has spotted a Ninjago City set available for purchase at Legoland Germany. The set is already available for VIP members, but cannot be bought in stores. Well, other than this one!

LEGO Ninjago City spotted at Legoland Germany

Just a friendly reminder: shops in Legoland do not redeem (nor give out) VIP points and usually have quite a bit steeper prices than regular stores. I recommend you wait it out until it does become available in stores.

LEGO Ninjago 2018 rumored sets

The next Ninjago TV show season for 2018 hasn’t been even properly announced yet but rumors of upcoming sets are already popping up! Many users over at Eurobricks report seeing leaked images of the upcoming 2018 catalog on various social networks so these rumors are most likely true. But, like any other rumor, it should be taken with a grain of salt. The rumored sets are, of course, based off of ‘Sons of Garmadon’ storyline and give off hints of the plot.

LEGO Ninjago 2018 rumored sets

Apparently, this wave will contain six new sets, as well as new spinners. The rumored sets are:

70638 – Katana V11. Apparently it includes Kai, who’s using a boat to fight of one of Sons of Garmadon. It includes at least 2 minifigs.

70639 – Street Race of Snake Jaguar. It should include two motorcycles, Zane, Son of Garmadon, and a bigfig-like brick-built fig.

70640 – S.O.G. Headquarters. A dojo-like building that includes several Sons of Garmadon and Lloyd in a spinner.

70641 – Ninja Nightcrawler. This one looks like to be the same vehicle Lloyd was using in the sneak-peak of Sons of Garmadon. It includes Lloyd, Nya and a Son of Garmadon.

70642 – Clow vs. Samurai X. The set is rumored to include Samurai X riding a mech and a bigfig (most likely Clow), riding a giant motorcycle.

70643 – Temple of Resurrection. It’s rumored to be a temple above a mountain cave, includes at least 7 minifigs (one of which is a baby minifig – presumably Garmadon).

No skipped codes this time, meaning that we will most likely get another wave of Ninjago Movie sets in April 2018.

What are your thoughts on these? I personally hope we get another bigfig in Ninjago – Dogshank is not enough. No matter how the sets end up looking – I will most certainly get them all and try to include them into my Ninjago diorama! Just like any other fan would.

Lloyd’s Shinryu Dragon Mech

When chubbybots saw the LEGO Ninjago Movie 70612 Mech Dragon set he didn’t just see the Dragon being built step by step. He imagined all the possibilities and, like a true master builder, turned one model into something entirely different. Based on Shinryu, a mech that appears in the popular Evangelion franchise, it is an excellent alternative built, worthy of our admiration:

Lloyd’s Shinryu Dragon Mech

Parts are used incredibly well, with some great techniques used, especially in the head. I just love how the lower chin is used as a tail and the upper part as the base of Lloyd’s seat! It really creates a good flow. Golden bananas are used as shoulder guards, which was a great idea because you just can’t pass up a chance to use golden bananas in a build!

Overall, the MOC is quite well built, pleasant to the eye and highly posable – which all mechs should be. I recommend you check out the rest of the images as well. If you want to know how the MOC was build you can check out the build video on the author’s YouTube channel.

LEGO releases two Ninjago Movie games

With just a little bit over a month until the theatrical release of The LEGO Ninjago Movie it’s a given we’ll be seeing more and more promotional efforts for the movie. This time around LEGO has released two Ninjago Movie games – ‘Spinjitzu Splash’ and ‘Nya vs The Shark Army’ on the Ninjago Movie gamehub.

LEGO releases two Ninjago Movie games

Spinjitzu Slash is a fruit ninja type of arcade finger-slashing game. It does not have a lot of depth but offers endless fun. Over time the game gives you more and more stuff to slice. Depending on your final score you get a title which showcases your skill in slicing food.

Nya vs The Shark Army is a simple action(ish) game in which you control the direction of Nya’s attack. The game only has 4 levels, which was a bit of a letdown. In each level you fight waves of Garmadon’s henchmen. If you defeat enough, you get a chance to go all out on the big boss himself.

The gamehub’s menu shows 4 more games that will be available in the future. Combine these with the promotional videos LEGO released yesterday and you already get a nice promotional campaign.

LEGO unveils Ninjago Movie promotional skits

LEGO has released on its official YouTube channel 7 new Ninjago Movie videos. Each of them presents various characters and sets in a comical setting. In the first one Garmadon takes a picture of Wu and shares it with his henchmen. The second one shows Lloyd defeating Garmadon with his ‘Dragon Breath’. A similar scene plays out in the third one, but this time Garmadon takes a selfie before going down. Nya showcases how nimble the Water Strider is in the fourth one. You’re instructed to catch Jay in the fifth one (I’ve yet to succeed!). The sixth focuses on Kai who’s having a dance off with his mech. In the last one Cole uses the Shark Army as dominoes.

LEGO unveils Ninjago Movie promotional skits

Although I didn’t find these funny nor whimsical, I do appreciate the effort. I like how they made the ‘Lightning Jet’ video a bit more interactive. It would’ve been nice if something actually happened when you did catch him! These come just two days after LEGO Ninjago City product animation which means that movie promotion is in full swing.
